They would tell me I needed a particular test/clearance, and once that was completed, they would say, "well now we need...". At one point I hadn't heard anything for a while, and after a few calls, found that the caseworker handling my case was on vacation, and everything was just sitting on her desk. I would definitely recommend asking for a written list of all the requirements needed for approval at the outset.
